Boston Travel - Getaway Girls

Boston, some of the BEST that the NE has to offer!

Boston is one of those cities that you visit and wonder why it took you so long to make the trip! Boston has its own unique swagger, cuisine and history. Apart from the obvious connection to Pre-Revolutionary History, Bostonians are rooted in Contemporary American Traditions in the areas of music and sports culture as well. Of all of the cities on the East Coast, Boston absolutely offers the best mix of everything you could possibly want in a Getaway, minus the congestion and at a slightly slower pace. There is something incredibly comfortable about Boston. Whether you are looking for a Family Trip, Girls Weekend, or Guys Getaway… Boston has it all!

Top Sites to See in Boston - Getaway Girls Travel

Tip #1

Our NUMBER 1 TIP for Boston is: Stay at the W Boston! Centrally located, in the Theatre District and within walking distance of almost everything (including the T) it provides you with the most luxurious accommodation, personal attention from a W Insider (shout out to our Fav Josh D) and endless opportunities for in-house fun (club, lounge, spa, etc.). When you enter the W, you’re greeted by a TOP NOTCH staff and swept away into a sexy upbeat vibe! The best part of this property is that whether you are celebrating an anniversary, family trip, a romantic weekend, Girls Getaway, etc. the W is a perfect pick! Every aspect of this property is next level and will immediately have you ready to book your return visit. Even though there is plenty of “competition” in the area, the W is our TOP PICK and we highly recommend it for your next Getaway in Boston!

Pack Your Walking Shoes: Boston is an awesome city to see on foot! The historical sites alone will have tooling around town for days and the best part is that many of them are free, or very inexpensive! We definitely recommend that you spend at least one of your days wandering around places like Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall, Boston Commons, The Freedom Trail, Old North Church, Granary Burial Ground, Boston Harbor, etc.

Tip #3

Take a Tour! There are SO MANY to choose from, no matter why you are visiting… there will be one to suit the needs of your group! Trolley, Duck, or Segway are all ways to travel around Boston on a guided tour. Cemetery, Brewery, or Fenway venue options for touring as well. Definitely a fun way for a family to spend the day!

Tip #4

See a Show. While we were in town we saw Dirty Sexy Funny at the Wilbur Theatre (literally 10 steps outside of our hotel doors), which is an excellent venue to see a show. It’s small, so there isn’t really a bad seat in the house and the show was hysterical! PERFECT for a Girls Night Out! Although we didn’t see Blue Man Group in Boston, we have seen it in NY & Vegas and strongly recommend it. Luckily for all those getting away to Boston, Blue Man Group has a residency at the Charles Playhouse (again, located very close to the W hotel) and a perfect pick for any group, especially families. Lastly, another great date night show option, the Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by Hudson Valley native Keith Lockhart!!!

Tip #5

Food, Markets & Shopping! Who doesn’t love a good Food Truck Line Up? Now add a Farmer’s Market, some art & a little antiquing and you have the perfect afternoon every Summer Sunday at 450 Harrison Avenue (Thanks for the Tip Josh)! Check out sowasundays.com for more information, but when in Boston it’s a MUST DO!!!

Tip #6

Plan Ahead. Boston is a major city, so there are a lot of celebrations, holidays, festivals, concerts, etc. that you may either want to avoid, or plan your travel around. Before booking your flight, packing the car, or making that reservation you might want to check BostonUSA.com to make sure that the dates you will be in town match up with the type of Getaway you are trying to have!

Tip #7

Everybody needs a little BLISS in their life. Another perk at the W, the Bliss Spa. Take some time to pamper yourself before heading home to your regular routine and enjoy a treatment. Using only the most luxurious signature Bliss products you will rejuvenate your mind, body and soul all at the same time. Thank us later.

Fav #1

W Boston – We can’t say enough about this Hotel. In fact, we feel so strongly about the service that we received (each of the 3 times we have stayed) at the W Boston, that we would probably say that it is one of our FAVORITE PROPERTIES OVERALL (throughout the US). Just as memorable an experience as the time we spent walking through the historic streets of Boston, we truly enjoyed every minute of our stay at the W.

Fav #2

Cupcake Mojo – No matter where we go, we look for Cupcake spot and boy did we find the mother-load at Cupcake Mojo! More than just cupcakes, this Mother Daughter owned & family run business has created unique flavors, blends and original products that can only be found at Mojo! Located just outside of Boston, in Weymouth, Cupcake Mojo is a MUST HAVE! Visit them and make sure to try the Coconut Raspberry Cupcake or Red Velvet Mojar and tell them that the #GirlyWolfPack sent you!

Fav #3

Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market – An awesome way to spend the afternoon, Quincy Market is fun mix of shopping, eating and history. Whether you are looking for a new outfit, or a little something to remember your time in Boston by… Quincy market has shops to accommodate both and at reasonable prices. Once you’ve worked up an appetite shopping, you’ll be able to find every edible New England treat from Lobster Rolls to Chowder and Whoopie Pies to Gelato, inside the main building. After re-fueling, check out the live performers that typically sprinkle the courtyard in front of Faneuil Hall and take a stroll up Tremont Street on the Freedom Trail.

Fav #5

McGreevy’s – Owned by Ken Casey of the LEGENDARY Band Dropkick Murphy’s, McGreevy’s is absolutely what you would expect a replica of the historic Boston Sport Bar to be. Come as you are, belly up to the bar, watch the game, and have a good time! But so much more than just a bar… the legends live on and the stories continue to be told, but just don’t have a drink! Order some food too because it’s DELISH! What we loved most about McGreevy’s is that we really felt like it captured the spirit of Boston all in one place.

Fav #4

Empire Restaurant & Lounge (Seaport District) – Sexy Atmosphere, Great Service, AMAZING Food. We were very impressed with the options on the menu at Empire, so much so, that it took us longer than usual to make our final selections. Unable to decide, we selected several appetizers and desserts (in addition to our entrees) and shared them… each one better than the last. Slightly pricier than an average night out, it’s well worth the splurge.

Fav #6

Wahlburger’s – You might think that just because they are the subject of a top rated A&E reality show, or because Mark & Donnie Walberg are the driving force behind the name… that this Hingham, MA Burger joint isn’t worth the drive (or the wait)…. but you would be wrong. After standing in line for about 90 minutes, we put the menu to the test ordering 4 different Burgers (O.F.D., Our Burger, BBQ Bacon Burger, and Turkey Burger), 1 of each side on the menu and several cupcakes (from Cupcake Mojo)! We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was and can’t wait to go back and try some more of their yummy burgers! If you drive in, you might want to check out Wahlburger’s for lunch on your way home! It’s well worth it.

Fav #7

Wilbur Theatre – This cozy venue located centrally in the heart of the Theatre District, pulls down big names at reasonable prices. We had seats in the middle of the house, off to the right of the stage… not the best and we were not disappointed with our view. In fact, for the price (and in comparison to its Broadway counterpart) we found the seats very reasonable. We would absolutely suggest working in a show, possibly at the Wilbur, during a weekend in Boston!

Fav #8

Mul’s Diner – We woke up one morning and asked one of our local friends to bring us to the “BEST BREAKFAST SPOT IN BOSTON,” next thing we knew… we were pulling up in front of a little diner in Southie called Mul’s. Packed to the brim with locals and the smell of hash and bacon in the air, we are promptly summonsed over to our corner table. Again, we didn’t expect much and then we had our coffee mugs flipped and were handed our laminated menus. Crème Brule French Toast, Eggs Benedict and Corned Beef Hash, Pancakes and Home Fries all to die for. Funny thing is, the next morning when we asked the concierge at the W, where the best breakfast in Boston was, expecting a totally different answer… her response was, “well, if you don’t mind driving, I would say Mul’s!” So that’s where we went! Again.

Fav #9

Freedom Trail – One of the most charming things about Boston, is your ability to literally take a stroll back in time while following the red brick road through the city. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile walking trail marked by a red-brick path that leads you to 16 nationally significant historic sites that are clearly marked, beautifully kept and a fun way to add great pictures and memories to your scrapbook!

Kilvert & Forbes Bake Shop - Favorite Boston Spots and Sites - Getaway Girls Travel

Fav #10

Kilvert & Forbes Bake Shop – So their claim to fame is “Better than Homemade” and they ain’t kidding! 9 JUMBO cookies and 2 macaroons later we were in a sugar induced Heaven (or coma… you be the judge), definitely the perfect snack to grab at Quincy Market before heading out on the Freedom Trail!
